Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Just a reminder that I’m hosting two town hall meetings this Saturday, Feb. 20 in Spokane. The first will be from 9-10 a.m. at Ridgeview Elementary School (5610 North Maple Street), where I would like to discuss education issues. The second will be from 11 .m. – noon at the Museum of Arts and Culture auditorium (2316 W. First Ave) to discuss jobs and the economy. I hope you’ll join me for one of these discussions.
Yesterday the House began debating the final passage of Senate Bill 6130, which would suspend most of Initiative 960, also known as the Taxpayer Protection Act. It will likely light the way for the 77 tax and fee increase proposals to be passed. Spokane County’s unemployment right now is 9.3 percent. In December, more than 4,300 people looking for jobs in our 6th District alone. Tax increases have historically worsened economic downturns, and destroyed job opportunities. I can’t vote to suspend the people’s will in order to raise taxes which will only worsen our economy. You can view my speech last night here (starting at 00:08:35), asking the House to indefinitely postpone action on the bill to suspend the initiative. This debate will continue at 8 p.m. tonight and I encourage you to watch the debate live on TVW’s Web site or channel 25 in Spokane.
Sincerely,

Kevin Parker
