Rep. Parker statement on June revenue forecast

Rep. Kevin Parker, R-Spokane, today released this statement following news that state revenue is expected to drop $482 million from previous estimates.

“These numbers could indicate that the plight of the economic situation is beginning to shift in a more positive direction.

“I’m happy to hear the governor will be looking for further spending reductions, rather than jumping into a discussion about tax increases. This is yet another opportunity for the Legislature to re-think its spending priorities.

“The people of Washington need hope right now. This is the time to create an environment where it is safe for consumers to spend, where employers have the stability to keep and create jobs, and where hardworking taxpayers have confidence in their ability to provide for their families.

“I hope neighbors and communities will pull together during this time to support each other. The recession isn’t over yet, but together we can come out stronger than before.”
