Parker statement on House operating budget proposal

Rep. Kevin Parker, R-Spokane, released this statement regarding the majority party's budget proposal today:

“I appreciate that this is a no-new-taxes budget. Hard-working families and employers deserve to have a government that lives within its means. They simply cannot afford more financial burdens at the cost of a larger government.

“My hope is that tax proposals will be completely taken off the table as the Legislature proceeds. This is an opportunity to make state government more efficient and responsible.

“At the same time, the state needs to consider viable long-term solutions for our state budgeting process. This means letting go of the status quo politics of budgeting and embracing new solutions to provide the type of leadership our state needs right now.

“It's time to roll up our sleeves and make the difficult decisions that needs to be made. We can create a better, streamlined government that reflects the state's responsibilities in education and protecting the most vulnerable.”
